A great lighting system is all you need to set the right mood for that dinner, movie night, TV show or game you’re playing. These are just a few of the perks of using the Phillips Hue smart lighting system. With just simple taps on your smartphone, you can easily control your light bulbs and decide the light setting and color for each room, whenever you want. While there are several applications for IOS and Android that you can use to control your lights, here are the top 8 (in no particular order) that you should definitely try out.

  1. Hue Dynamic

This app not only allows you create scenes and set your lighting to any color of your choice, but it also has a feature that enables you to sync your lights to your TV so if you’re watching a movie, the app lets you adjust the lights in accordance with the specific movie lighting to give you an awesome cinematic experience. Plus, you can set your lighting based on your music – an all-in-one app if you ask me.

The Lightbow app happens to be one of the most convenient smart bulb apps to use but is also one of the most expensive. This app is compatible with both LIFX and Hue bulbs and allows the user to adjust not just individual lights but groups of lights. It also has a feature that enables you to turn your smart bulbs into a light show. In addition, you can easily control the entire light system in your home making it the go-to app for users who like things simple and easy.

This app is well known for its mood-setting features. While most apps offer extravagant colors and lighting, Onswitch is better used to set the mood of any room as you can pick any setting you’d like such as an oceanic, desert, or winter setting. This way, you can make each room look like a totally different place.

The Scintillator app allows you to show just how creative you can be. Unlike some apps that only have preset colors, this application enables you to choose the exact colors you want your lights to show as well as the accompanying light effects.

Of course, many of us don’t like to try out apps that have to be paid for before they can be used. If you’re in this boat, Hue Hello has got you covered. It is a free Philips Hue lights application that is ranked among the top in the free category. It is also very easy to use as it comes with 8 basic presets.

The HueMote, just as the name implies, is a remote for Hue lights (what more explanation do you need?). This app actually simplifies controlling your home light system as you can easily switch your lights on or off, or adjust them as the need arises.

It’s party time! With this app, you can literally turn any room into a mini disco hall by syncing your music and lights to give off the perfect dancing lights. Plus, the music doesn’t have to come from your smartphone, the app uses the microphone to obtain external sounds so you can play music from any device.

  • Philips Hue

Well, this list wouldn’t be complete without the Philips Hue app itself. It is one of the more convenient apps as it allows you to carry out the normal control functions with just a few taps. The Philips Hue app also allows you to change light colors and there are up to 16 million colors to choose from.
