The Rundown on Green Screens

Once rarely used outside of filmmaking and television, green screen backgrounds appeal to more people than ever before. From employees working at home to online gamers live streaming their gameplay, the easy separation of subject and background made possible through a green screen is undeniable. We know that setting up unfamiliar technology can be a daunting task, but there are simple guidelines you can follow to succeed. Displays2go.com created a step-by-step guide for setting up your green screen as well as an accompanying video for those less fond of reading.

Beyond using a green screen, lighting is probably the most important consideration when trying to achieve great video quality. Traditional lighting/lamps can be fantastic if utilized correctly, but if you want an edge in terms of lighting, we suggest exploring Philips Hue smart bulbs

A Final, Incredibly Important Note

Video conferencing has been around for years, but has grown exponentially this year. In December 2019, Zoom had 10 million daily users. Shortly afterward, in March 2020, Zoom reached 200 million active users. This significant and quick increase has revealed flaws in Zoom that were previously unknown.

The main issue involves cybersecurity; hackers have started joining “private” Zoom conferences and they are not there to engage in your work chat. “Zoombombing” is the term for hijacking a video call and posting hateful/offensive content. Churches, online classes, and AA meetings are among the Zoombombing victims. We are including this information so that you can stay safe while using Zoom; the company is aware of these issues and working to fix them. In the meantime, we have some tips for keeping uninvited guests out of your conferences:

  1. Make sure your screen sharing setting is “host only”
  2. Use a strong password or waiting room
  3. Only let people you invited join the chat
  4. Share conferencing links privately—no group messages or unsecure chats

If you want more details on staying safe with Zoom, they have a lengthy blog post dedicated to the issue.

Hopefully, this guide helps you customize and improve your video conferencing. We have included links to the free background images below. There are choices for all tastes, whether you want pop culture references or a simple, clean design.
